Truck and tyre fires is a serious problem for many heavy vehicles, but this is where LSM Technologies works to mitigate the risk.
LSM Technologies is sponsoring a new fires guidance and prevention program while offering tyre monitoring systems that work to prevent against these recognised causes of truck fires.
Given the increasing upward trend in fire claims in the past 10 years, LSM joined the National Bulk Tanker Association (NBTA) and the Truck Industry Council (TIC) in sponsoring the fire guidance and prevention program to uncover more details about how to mitigate truck fires.
The National Heavy Vehicle Safety Innovation funded the study that showed that around 35 per cent of truck and trailer fires occur because of tyre and wheel failures.
The report goes on to say that tyres and wheels catch fire mainly because they are under-inflated, have dragging brakes or have wheel bearing failures.
Other less likely causes for wheel well or tyre fires include pyrolysis and electrical strikes, with these fire incidents costing the community and industry tens of millions of dollars each year and endangering people according to the report.
Vulnerable materials like wiring insulation or rubber tyres without fire resistance can often combine with high normal operating temperatures in certain parts of trucks to cause fire hazards.
When electric, exhaust and brake heat combine with warmth in chemical systems, electrical insulation and systems, as well as tyres and wheel wells, become vulnerable to fires.

This is where LSM Technologies specialises in providing safeguarding systems that prevent critical incidents like tyre fires from occurring.
LSM Technologies' TyreGuard Tyre Monitoring System technology is an ideal way for operators to keep their fleet safe, as the mitigating technology specialises in reducing heavy vehicle fires and roll-overs.
The LSM TyreGuard TMSystems is a unique piece of technology that provides live updates on vehicle tyre status to avoid any serious truck fire incidents, while the LSM TyreGuard MTR360 is a more advanced systems that can issue a wider range of in-depth feedback on tyre and truck performance.
Founded in 2002, operators can also monitor their truck fleets through the FSM Fleet Safety (Tracking) Manager telematics system that uses cutting-edge technology to monitor trucks and their tyres to prevent any fires or serious incidents.
Combined with the upcoming LSM Sentinel VSS Vehicle Safety System, LSM Technologies' suite of safety products is a great idea for operators wanting to prevent truck fires and maximise tyre performance.
